Inexpensive, portable toys for young children are not always easy to come by.
These bags are easy to make and quiet, making them a perfect solution for entertaining children during church services, road trips, and other occasions when keeping noise levels down is helpful.

What you will need:

  • 1/4 yard of fabric.
  • 1/4 yard upholstery plastic(clear).
  • 1-3 cups of uncooked rice depending on the size of your bag.
  • 15 – 20 small objects that your kids will enjoy searching for (coins, buttons. dice, safety pins, marbles, etc.). Most craft stores sell small buttons shaped as animals, cars, fruits, or sports objects. Just be sure to select objects that won’t puncture the plastic or fabric.

    1. Using a half inch seam and a straight stitch, sew the clear plastic to the backside of the fabric. Leave a 3 inch opening to put the rice and small objects in.

    2. Poor the rice and small objects in the bag. Don’t fill the bag too full or you will not be able to move the rice around and find the objects.

    3. Using a zig-zag stitch, sew over the straight stitch and close the 3 inch opening.4. Don’t forget to make a list of the small objects so you know what to look for.
